I grew up in the southern part of the country, where the summer temperatures are hot and humid and winter doesn’t require a furnace.
I loved living down south close to the beach and the water. When my dad accepted a new job in Denver, Colorado, I was crushed. I was very upset and angry and I threatened to run away from home. My dad got a job in the new cannabis industry. Colorado had just legalized recreational cannabis and my dad was getting in the business early. He knew recreational cannabis was going to turn into a billion dollar industry. My mom told me I would make new friends and she was right. I made a lot of new friends quickly and I only missed my hometown for a few months. I adapted to Denver very quickly. I learned how to ski after we moved to the region. My parents took me skiing at Keystone every single weekend. Keystone is one of the most family-friendly resorts in the Denver area. It has night time skiing and plenty of kid-friendly areas and family-friendly programs. Now that I am an adult, I understand how hard it was for my parents to make the decision to move. I know it wasn’t easy for them to leave their friends or family either. I am glad that my parents made the decision, because Denver is so much nicer than the place where I would have grown up. My family and I visited there a few years ago. It is like night and day when you compare that place to Denver.
