We had a very strong storm system come through last week and it dropped 14 inches of snow in less than 8 hours.
I don’t think I have ever seen so much snow in such a short amount of time.
I was worried when the snow started falling heavily. It was a very wet snow, and as soon as it got cold it turned into ice. I wasn’t surprised that the schools were canceled in Orland Park, Illinois, where my family and I live. The roads were treacherous and it was still below freezing at 7:00 in the morning when the kids were supposed to be getting ready to go to school. All of the schools canceled classes in Orland Park, Illinois. The kids were home with me and my wife was at work. She took the truck with four-wheel drive, because she had to go to the office. The kids spent some time outside in the morning and then I made them lunch. It was cold during lunch time and the kids wanted to keep their jackets on. I looked at the temperature on the thermostat and I realized that it was only 64° in the house. The furnace wasn’t running. I went outside to look at the furnace and the pilot light was out. Thankfully, this is a really easy thing to fix. I have no idea why the pilot light went out, but I was happy that I did not have to contact a furnace repair business in Orland Park. It can be very expensive to repair your furnace in the middle of a winter storm.
