It is cold most of the year in Indiana.
I live in South Bend and that means my heating system is running 24/7.
It is very rare where I feel the need to turn on the air conditioner. Usually during the summer season I open up the windows and let a natural breeze rush into the house. I read online that the indoor air quality can get quite polluted. When the same air is blowing around and around the house, there is dust, dirt and hair in it. It isn’t great for a family to breathe that in. This can lead to headaches, sinus pressure, and fatigue. I have tried to naturally air out the home. Other than that brief time in the summer, I am stuck during the winter. Thankfully I talked to my local HVAC dealership in Indiana. They recommended that I add an air purifier into my ductwork. As the heater operates, the air is blown through an air cleaner. The air purification plant naturally removes dust, dirt, and smells from the air. It has a filter that needs to be changed monthly and requires yearly service. This did add quite a bit to my total HVAC bill every season. I like having an air purifier though. I live on a dirt road in South Bend and I constantly worry about inferior indoor air conditions. I want my house to smell clean and fresh. Since I have to keep everything sealed up tight, I need to invest in another device to get the air clean for me.
